For a limited time EA is offering The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free on their Origin PC gaming service. Instructions for how to get the game are available here. They're pretty simple though, so let me explain the process.
The Sims 2 is an incredible sequel to the best-selling PC game of all-time! You'll get to direct an entire Sims' lifetime, and try to get them to reach their goals in life. The Sims (also known as The Sims 1 or The Sims Classic) is a life-simulation video game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts on February 4, 2000 for Windows, and July 25, 2000 for Mac OS X. The game only has a single-player mode. If you put The Sims 1 in 2000 (the year EA/Maxis released the game), then The Sims 2 is 2025, and The Sims 3 (era) is 25 years prior in 1975 (which matches nicely with the 70s, 80s, and 90s Pack). If you already have an Origin account all you need to do is head over to the Origin code redemption page and log in. Enter the code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS and hit next. Hit next again and the game will automatically be added to your account free of charge.
If you do not have an Origin account already then you can sign up for one here. After you have an account follow the directions above. You'll need to download the Origin client to your PC to play the game.
The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection contains the original The Sims 2 game as well as every expansion pack and stuff pack. Considering how heavily The Sims franchise relies on expansions, this is a ton of content being offered for free.
The Sims 2 is currently not available for purchase on Origin, so if you want the game this is the only way to get it at this time. EA has announced that they will no longer support the title, which already has a sequel available and another about to release.
The offer is only available from now until July 31st at 10am Pacific time, so be sure to redeem your code before then if you want to be able to enjoy The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection with your Origin account.
